Based on my experiences of Adsense, as a revenue making method for blogs/sites, I wouldn’t rely on it as it can prove to be quite unreliable. However for newbies, just getting started with blogging, it’s definitely worth experimenting with. I’ve just written an article on why this is the case which can be foundhere
I’d welcome your comments below, as to how you’ve found adsense. Has it proved a nice little earner, or are you still struggling to get past that threshold amount and get a cheque from Google?

Before the days of RSS readers, it used to be a pain in the derriere checking your favourite sites to see if there have been updates. But now, most people will use readers such as Google Reader, RSS reader, newsgator and so forth to check on their favorites’ and find out what new posts and content has been added. It offers a very fast and convenient way of getting latest news information and updates. Furthermore it’s pretty simple to sign up and get started. SEO blogger Aaron Wall has a useful video tutorial on how to get started with RSS readers which you should check out:
RSS feeds
On your site you should have an opt in list for people wanting to subscribe to your blog posts, something like feed burner is a good free tool for doing this and notifying people on your list when you’ve made new updates.
Admittedly this is one thing I haven’t got around to doing this yet on this blog, but I will do soon once the traffic picks up a little more. This of course a great way to start list building, something that a lot of internet marketers will harp on about loads. After all big numbers mean a better chance of flogging your info products or business services.

This is a stumbling block for many: how to get started with blogging and choosing a niche. The trouble is that with so many niches out there, how do you choose something that is a.) going to be profitable and b.) worthy of decent volumes of traffic and c.) has enough to write about it? When you’re first starting out, it’s important to do your research thoroughly before starting a blog. For starters you want to look at some sites like Wikipedia to find an area which you’re interested in, also complement this by looking at content network sites, and popular sites such as youtube can always help you identify what people are searching for and interested in.
When you decide upon a niche it’s important that your area is getting a lot of searches, so to determine if it’s going to be a worthwhile area give adwords keyword tool or other keyword tools such as keywordelite, keywordtracker etc to get an idea of the number of searches per month. Also it’s very beneficial to get an idea on the average cost per click on Adwords if you plan on paying Google anything for advertising.
It’s also a good idea, to find out what other people have done/are doing and what niches they’ve chosen and what kind of results they get with them. Of course, it’s probably not a good idea to directly imitate their site, but you can get a better idea if it’s worth perhaps working in a sub-area of the sector or not.
The most important part of getting started is not to over-analyze things too much, but rather a couple hours worth of careful research can save you loads of time in the long run. There will be more to come on this subject in later posts, till then best of luck!

Okay, so I realize my last post was about Google but if you want to dominate your niche sector you’re gonna have to be familiar with what’s going on with the Big G and the other search engines to get anywhere near making a profit from your blog or website. It’s not just about following the Google guidelines, it’s also making sure that what you’re offering is at the right time and place – in essence there must be an actual need for your product or service and a desperate one at that.
Anyway I digress, back to what I originally wanted to post about which is Google Waves, which is having a Tsunami like effect on the techie world. What google has basically done is invite developers and apps users to try out this new product: “Google Waves”. What it is no one quite knows apart from those who got the invites. But, this is how Gmail started out, so if it works in the same way and it’s quite exciting.
The invites were sent out yesterday, but there have been problems with malware attacks. People have sent fake “Waves” invites, and once the person clicks on the link the malware attack begins. So if you’ve received an invite, be certain it’s from Google before clicking on the link.

For a start what the hell are they? Well you’ve probably seen them a million times before, but perhaps not aware of the name. Google Doodles are the ever changing images on the Google search homepage. Usually they change corresponding to special days, remembrance of famous people in history etc. Sometimes Google will invite schools to design their own Google Doodle and submit it to them. Here’s some examples of previous Doodles that have been featured:

So After much speculation about what Google’s being doing recently with the featuring the UFO Google Doodle image for more than a day and it changing which letter had been abducted, today it’s become apparent what this Doodle relates to. Some people on web boards were speculating that Google was perhaps launching a new product, others that it marks the 40 year mystery convention. Anyway today, finally cleared up all the speculation the UFO doodle (as pictured below) is to commemorate known other than H.G. Well’s birthday who was born on September 21st 1866, in Bromley, Kent, England. Phew!

To start the week off, here’s an article I’ve just written on:article writing and submissionWriting articles is not only a good way to give your visitor stats a bit of a kick up the backside, but it can also be very fulfilling and rewarding, seeing something you’ve worked on published online. Also if it proves useful to other people and provides them with something they didn’t know previously, then you’ve got more chance of getting them on your subscribed to list, and them becoming a customer. Also, it’s very worthwhile tracking your visitors to the site through google analytics, webstats, or other analytical and tracking tools to see where you’re traffic is coming from. This will then give you an idea on what areas you need to focus on, in order to get more visitors to the site and ultimately more customers. Testing and tracking are vital factors and how you act upon this data will determine just how successful your blog is going to be. As so much time is going to be devoted to writing, research, and analysis it’s important to choose a niche where you will have the energy and inclination to fulfill all these aspects. Don’t choose something which bores you to death, choose a niche which you’ve got some interest in. Seeing your niche blog site grow from something that was getting maybe 10 visitors a day to even a 100 will inspire you to keep at. If time is an issue, outsource the article writing to someone capable and make sure you get them to submit to lots of different directories on a regular basis. Not only will it provide you with a good backlink, but also people will take an interest and perhaps click through to your site. Then it’s up to you on how you want to direct them after that.

Lately it seems all the mail in my inbox seems to be from internet marketers wanting to tell me about their latest product that they’re flogging. I understand this and I’m totally fine with it, usually I only just skim the first paragraph and if it doesn’t attract my attention further I don’t bother reading on. But it’s when the emailing gets too much and they start sending you a couple a day. Also everyone seems to follow the same format, in their emails and landing pages which I think does make people a little skeptical. Even if your message is delivered to near perfection, and you’ve got the most amazing copy, if it just looks like everyone else’s design format then surely that sends out a message that you’re just the same as everybody else – no?
Also in the emails, you occassionally get over inflated claims of earnings, e.g. I made $1000 in 5 Hrs with this product – You can do the same. Nowadays with Photo Shop it’s kinda easy to doctor these paypal and adsense statements. So it kinda makes you wonder, who really is telling the truth? For now I’ve decided to ignore these emails and concentrate on my own thing, and come back to all the forums when I’ve made my first online million. Then it might be me sending you all those emails and wondering why no one is buying my Info products.
