How to choose a niche

This is a stumbling block for many: how to get started with blogging and choosing a niche. The trouble is that with so many niches out there, how do you choose something that is a.) going to be profitable and b.) worthy of decent volumes of traffic and c.) has enough to write about it? When you’re first starting out, it’s important to do your research thoroughly before starting a blog. For starters you want to look at some sites like Wikipedia to find an area which you’re interested in, also complement this by looking at content network sites, and popular sites such as youtube can always help you identify what people are searching for and interested in.
When you decide upon a niche it’s important that your area is getting a lot of searches, so to determine if it’s going to be a worthwhile area give adwords keyword tool or other keyword tools such as keywordelite, keywordtracker etc to get an idea of the number of searches per month. Also it’s very beneficial to get an idea on the average cost per click on Adwords if you plan on paying Google anything for advertising.
It’s also a good idea, to find out what other people have done/are doing and what niches they’ve chosen and what kind of results they get with them. Of course, it’s probably not a good idea to directly imitate their site, but you can get a better idea if it’s worth perhaps working in a sub-area of the sector or not.
The most important part of getting started is not to over-analyze things too much, but rather a couple hours worth of careful research can save you loads of time in the long run. There will be more to come on this subject in later posts, till then best of luck!
